It gives the main version of the myth, but also talks about the other versions that are out there. There is also a list of additional sources at the end of each chapter that makes it very easy to look into anything that you found interesting in that chapter. Got this book for a summer class.
It is well maintained. I only gave it 3 stars due to the fact that is has been marked up with a pen. Someone took their notes on the pages.
It is still readable, but looks very messy and sometimes distracting. I know these are used, but there should be a little quality control on them. I'm renting this book for a class but I'm considering purchasing it. It's very informative. I've learned a lot for someone who knew next to nothing about classical mythology a month ago.
I normally hate books issued by teachers but this one is fantastic, detailed, and has myths I had never even heard of and I have been reading Greek mythology for over 16 years.
Honestly what a fantastically written book. I knew nothing about this class nor was I even remotely interested in it, but this book kept my attention well enough and easy enough for me to walk out of the class with an easy A. This is a wonderful and well written textbook and I heartily recommend it. Would have given it a 5-star rating; however, some of the pages are really discolored, unclean looking, a lot of dog-eared pages, and bent cover page.
But it does do the job, no pages seem to be missing so far and it is still readable. This text is very comprehensive but a little too verbose for my taste.

Great book. Shame it is not available in kindle format. It is quite a heavy book. A very authoritative book which I'm sure will help greatly with my studies. More like printing disaster. I returned the 10th edition of this book because of very ugly smudges and spots on multiple pages.
Amazon sent a replacement, which is identical. Amazon then said the publisher said the smudges and dirty-looking spots are intentional, made to seem like marble. This is not credible in my opinion. The smudges look like a very bad printing job; they look as though the ink got smudged on the 1st few pages of the book plus on every 1st page of every chapter.
I know no marble that looks like this and it seems an excuse made to prevent refunds. While the content is unaffected, the visual aspect of the book is simply awful. Load more international reviews. Excellent price and definitely satisfied with the condition of the text book I ordered. Excellent and detailed reference textbook, perfectly recommended as a companion to OU's Mythology course. I wrote 'detailed' above and that is probably the best description of it - there is more than enough information for the interested person and a sound core of understanding and direction for the academic to build on.
